The following checks are recommended Accessibility checks that require a manual review. Some of the checks will be more appropriate for template-level review while others in this set may be best to be run across all pages to flag for specific types of content included within a site.
Manual review - Expandable content functionality
Paying particular attention to any “hamburger menus,” or expandable menus, can they be opened, navigated (including any sub-level items), and closed automatically or easily with the keyboard?
Manual review - Form display at zoom to 200%
Zoom to 200% - Do elements meant to be together (such as form labels and text entry boxes) stay together upon magnification?
Manual review - No Keyboard Traps
Review specifically for the following:
Expandable elements can not only be expanded, but can also be collapsed automatically or with a keyboard command, so they do not block other content.
Look for automatically-refreshing social media embedded feed. Try to tab very, very slowly through any such feed to observe whether a user can close it, or move past it, at a reasonable point; if the feed keeps refreshing by automatically adding additional entries to be shown, it causes a trap for those who are unable to use quick keyboard strokes – or a mouse - to navigate.
Manual review - Visual Focus Indicator
Can users visually track where they are located on the page while navigating with a keyboard?
Tab through the webpage using the keyboard’s tab button, ensure any keyboard operable element has a focus indicator visible.
